Carlos Gimenez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1954. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Dade County in 1972. In 1984, Gimenez was elected to the Board of Directors of the Miami Association of Firefighters and served as their Vice President. He was promoted to Fire Chief of Miami in 1991. Gimenez was able to transform Miami's fire rescue system into one of the best in the nation leading to his elevation as Miami-Dade County Manager in 2000.read less
