Ashton Wheeler Clemmons was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and English Literature at UNC Chapel Hill in 2007. After college, Ashton joined Teach for America and taught middle school English in New York City. She later earned her Master of Education Policy and Management from Harvard. Ashton moved back to Greensboro in 2014 to raise her family. She has served on the boards of multiple community organizations.
