Angus S. King Jr. was born in Alexandria, Virginia on March 31, 1944. He attended Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law. After law school, he moved to Skowhegan, Maine to practice law. In 1994, he ran for Governor of Maine as an Independent. King won with 35% of the vote in a five-way race. As Governor from 1995 to 2003, King focused on providing laptops to middle school students, expanding healthcare coverage for low-income residents, and reducing energy costs. He was re-elected in 1998 with 59% of the vote. After leaving office in 2003, King taught at Bowdoin College and the University of Maine School of Law. He also founded Independence Wind, a wind power company.read less
