Alice M. Emmons's political career began when she won election to the South Dakota State Senate in 1984. She went on to serve four terms from 1985 to 1992. In the Senate, Emmons served as Majority Whip from 1989 to 1990. She did not seek re-election in 1992. After a decade out of public office, Emmons ran for South Dakota State Treasurer in 2002. She lost in the Republican primary. Four years later, she ran again and won the Republican nomination. However, Emmons lost in the general election to the incumbent Democratic Treasurer.read less
