Ako Abdul-Samad is a member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 35. He was first elected to the chamber in 2006. Abdul-Samad serves as vice chair of the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee and as a member of the Environmental Protection, Human Resources, Public Safety, and Transportation committees. Abdul-Samad earned his MPA from Drake University. His professional experience includes working as chief of staff for Polk County, community activist, and youth counselor. Abdul-Samad volunteers with Urban Dreams-Team Teen Summit and strategic planning for Des Moines Public Schools. He and his wife have three children.read less
